Abstract

As back-contact (BC) photovoltaic technology advances toward high-efficiency mass production, performance under low irradiance has become an increasingly important point of differentiation. Real-world PV operation spans a wide range of irradiance conditions, optimisation of parameters outside standard test conditions – such as low light efficiency - become an important focus.

This seminar examines the key mechanisms governing low-light performance in BC cells, and the design levers available to optimise it. These factors are discussed in the context of optimisation curves, where design parameters are tuned to maximise efficiency under low-irradiance conditions.
