Abstract Professor Martin Green explains the Role of the Australian Centre for Advanced Photovoltaics: its constituents and target outcomes.
The Australian Centre for Advanced Photovoltaics (ACAP) comprises the Australian partners of the Australia-US Institute for Advanced Photovoltaics (AUSIAPV), which will develop the next generations of photovoltaic technology, providing a pipeline of opportunities for performance increase and cost reduction. AUSIAPV will link ACAP with NSF/DOE Energy Research Center for Quantum Energy and Sustainable Technologies (QESST), based at Arizona State University, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratories, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories, Stanford University, Georgia Institute of Technology and University of California - Santa Barbara.
These national and international research collaborations will provide a pathway for highly visible, structured photovoltaic research collaboration between Australian and American researchers, research institutes and agencies, with significant joint programs based on the clear synergies between participating bodies.
The Centre will significantly accelerate photovoltaic development beyond that achievable by institutes acting individually, leveraging past and current funding.
This Program has been supported by the Australian Government through the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). Professor Martin A. Green, AM, FAA, FTSE, FIEEE, FRS
is the author of six books, twenty-one book chapters and over three hundred research papers in photovoltaics. He is currently the director of the Australian Centre for Advanced Photovoltaics funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).
