Abstract

With the approaching of silicon solar cell practical efficiency limit, the PV community is turning towards tandem devices. These are expected to be introduced in the market in 3-5 years’ time. When setting performance and cost target, an innovator has to consider the market requirements and expectations at the time of market entrance. By then bifacial modules will have a significant market share contributing to boost the energy yield of conventional PV plants. Combining tandem technology with bifaciality provides the best of the two worlds in a module that has high performance and high energy yield. In this seminar the potential and the successful fabrication of the first bifacial four-terminal (4T) tandem devices and minimodules will be presented. These combine bifacial silicon bottom cell with top perovskite minimodules. Energy yield calculation of the bifacial versus monofacial configurations and the outdoor measurements are reported. We conclude by showing recent results of the scaling-up to large area.
